BMW Opening New Factory in Brazil

BMW announced plans to open a new motorcycle production plant in Manaus, Brazil, by the end of the year. The company expects the plant to produce more than 10,000 motorcycles in 2017 for the Brazilian market. The factory will assemble nine different models including the G310R.

The new factory also marks the end of BMW’s arrangement with Dafra Motos, a Brazilian motorcycle manufacturer contracted with assembling BMW models for that market. Dafra will continue assembling BMW motorcycles up until this summer.

BMW sees great potential for the G310R in Brazil. It was, afterall, in Sao Paolo last fall that BMW previewed the small-displacement roadster with the Concept Stunt G310R (pictured below).

“With our global growth strategy we are opening up emerging markets such as Brazil. The G310R plays a key role in winning over new enthusiastic target groups for BMW Motorrad,” says Stephan Schaller, General Director of BMW Motorrad.

BMW is expected to introduce more models sharing the G310R platform over the next few years, and the new plant will likely assemble those new variants for the Brazilian market as well.
