Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge (reviewed here) handsets are certainly proving to be popular thanks to both the handsets being well-received as well as Samsung and the carriers giving away a Gear VR with each pre-order. Verizon customers had the added bonus of being able to choose between the Gear VR headset or Samsung’s Gear S2 smartwatch but it seems that demand has outstripped supply of the Gear S2 wearable, with Verizon now informing affected customers of delayed delivery times.
According to an email received by a Verizon customer, participants in the Galaxy S7/Gear S2 promotion may only receive their smartwatch gifts sometime in May although it could be as late as sometime in Summer 2016. Once the Gear S2 is ready to be shipped, recipients will receive an email containing a tracking for the device.
Unlike the customers that chose the Gear VR option and have the choice of taking $100 in credit to be used at Samsung’s online store, customers who chose the Gear S2 option have to wait for the device to be delivered. Still, it is the 3G version of the Gear S2 that they are receiving. The Gear S2’s 3G functionality can be activated for just $5 monthly when following the steps on the watch itself.
If you chose the Gear S2 option when pre-ordering your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, how do your feel about the delay in shipping times for the Tizen-run smartwatch? Would you prefer the choice of either waiting for the smartwatch to be delivered or receiving a credit to use at Samsung’s online store? Or, are you just happy to be getting the watch for free? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
