Samsung rolls out Marshmallow for the global variant of the Galaxy S5

Marshmallow

Samsung has begun the rollout of Marshmallow for the global variant of the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F).

This news comes not much longer after the company began rolling out the same software update to the Galaxy S5 model for South Korea. Obviously there isn’t a huge difference between the updates, with both phones getting all the great things that Marshmallow brings, such as Doze, Google Now On Tap, App Permissions, and plenty of other goodies.

The SM-G900F is sold in Europe, Latin America, and some regions inside Asia. Owners of the handset should begin seeing a prompt to download the update today, though it could take a couple of weeks to get to everybody. There’s a smaller userbase of the Galaxy S5 in these regions, so it actually shouldn’t be too long of a wait.

To check for the update manually, you can head into Settings > About Phone. From there, you should be able to check for the update and get that prompt to download Marshmallow.

It’s neat that Samsung is offering support even in some of the smaller regions. The company’s been very good about getting Marshmallow on some of its older devices. In fact, Sprint not that long ago received Marshmallow for the Galaxy S5, though AT&T users are still waiting for news on when they’ll get the same update.

It shouldn’t be much longer before most everyone gets a taste of Marshmallow. After all, Android N is just over the horizon, and that’s going to be the big focus going forward.
