Josh Day Has Successful Surgery On Schedule To Race At New Jersey Motorsports Park

After suffering multiple fractures in his thumb when he high-sided from his #00 Yamalube/Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 in last Saturday’s MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000 morning practice at Road Atlanta, Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Josh Day had successful surgery this past Tuesday. Josh is on schedule to compete in Round Three of the 2016 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship, which is next weekend, April 29 – May 1, at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey.

This past Monday, Josh met with orthopedic surgeon and hand specialist Dr. Michael S. Slutsky at Ortho Atlanta, andon Tuesday, Dr. Slutsky performed surgery on Josh’s thumb, with Ortho Atlanta partner Dr. Keith Lamberson assisting.

“I had X-rays taken last Saturday afternoon at Barrow Regional Medical Center in Winder, near Road Atlanta,” Josh said. “At the time, it was thought that I’d need to have the thumb pinned and plated. But, during the surgery at Ortho Atlanta, Dr. Slutsky and Lamberson determined that the damage was not as bad as we originally thought. My thumb was fractured in four places, but they were able to repair it without using a plate. Pins and screws did the trick, which should help it heal a little bit more quickly. I’m also using a Game Ready, so that will speed up my recovery, too.”

Game Ready is a treatment system that uses innovative ACCEL™ (Active Compression and Cold Exchange Loop) Technology, which combines active compression and cold therapies to boost healing and recovery.

Josh will return to Dr. Lamberson’s office in Atlanta this Tuesday, to have a custom brace made so that he can race at New Jersey. “Dr. Lamberson wants me to bring my Spidi race gloves with me, and he is going to create a custom brace that will protect the injury, while also making me more comfortable. My crew chief Ed Sullivan is also working on the ergonomics of my R1, in order to make me a little bit more comfortable, too. I don’t foresee any problems at all in riding and racing at New Jersey. We’re ready to put this little setback behind us, get back to business, and put the #00 Yamalube/Westby Racing R1 up front.”

Yamalube/Westby Racing Welcomes G.M.D. Computrack Atlanta As Team Partner
In related news, G.M.D. Computrack Atlanta has joined Yamalube/Westby Racing as a team technical partner. According to team manager Chuck Giacchetto, “Josh got himself fixed back up after Road Atlanta, so we wanted to make sure that his R1 is fixed properly, too. So, we got together with Kent Soignier at G.M.D. Computrack Atlanta, and now, Josh is straight, the bike is straight, and we’re ready for New Jersey. We’re really fortunate to add Kent and G.M.D. Computrack Atlanta to our team.”
