Acers new Chromebook 14 is a sturdy little laptop for work

Acer Chromebook 14Acer’s new Chromebook takes a slightly different approach to the market, but it looks like it’s hit a niche that could be fairly successful. The Chromebook 14 for Work is one of the fastest Chromebooks we’ve ever seen with an Intel Core processor as opposed to the standard Celeron chips that tend to ship with budget laptops.

The drawback? Boy is this thing ugly. With that being said, it’s built for work customers, and it’s ready to take a few drops or spills. There’s a ton of plastic and Gorilla Glass here, and it’s MIL-STD 810G tested, so there’s almost nothing that can mess it up in an office setting. Throw upwards of 10 hours of battery life in this thing and you’ve got a winner for enterprise customers.

You’ll also get up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 32 GB of internal storage, depending on your preferred configuration, so it’s no slouch however you slice it. If you can live with the unappealing design (and if you’re buying this as a work laptop, you probably don’t care about something being sleek) this might end up being your next work computer.

Starting at $349, this could definitely be a popular choice for businesses to replace older Windows machines. That seems to be the norm now with Google making a hard push to cut into Microsoft’s dominant position in office and enterprise settings. We’ll just have to see if Acer can actually pull it off.
