The Top Ten New Motorcycles We’re Dying to Ride in 2016 This year is all about variety: cruisers, sportbikes, scramblers, and ADVs.

2016 Yamaha MT-10 static front 3/4 view Every year starting in late summer and rolling into the fall show season, manufacturers tease us with new models that will possibly arrive for the following model year. Some of them are definite future arrivals, while some of them are show bikes created to judge consumer interest. When we are lucky, the most exciting concepts make the jump into reality. So for the sake of channeling your lust for this model year and the next, we’ve put together a list of the ten new bikes we’re dying to ride in 2016. Enjoy!
2017 Kawasaki Z125 Pro static side view2017 Kawasaki Z125 Pro We like to screw around as much as anyone; and for sure some might feel that the new Kawasaki Z125 Pro is an ideal commuter, but to us it screams mini-hooligan bike. We don’t know what it is about pint-sized motorcycles that makes us want to be bad, but like the Honda Grom before it, we can’t wait to give the Z125 Pro a flogging.
2016 Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber static side view2016 Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber If you stay true to yourself long enough, attention will come back your way. Just look at Guzzi’s V9 Roamer and Bobber, both variations of the long-lived V7, which has grown in displacement to 850cc giving it a new lease on life just in time jump into the current retro fray. Both bikes are authentic to the core, but it’s the blacked-out Bobber that we crave.
2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Concept static side view2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 One of our favorite sportbikes of all time, the GSX-R1000 is just as legendary as the GSX-R moniker itself. But the late 2000s and early 20teens have been tough on Suzuki. Nowhere has this been more apparent than in the sportbike category, where the big Gixxer has fallen woefully behind “the Joneses” in terms of electronic wizardry, sophistication, and power output. But the rumored ’17 GSX-R1000 promises to prove that it can once again be a player. We can’t wait to find out! Isle of Man 2017, anyone?
2017 Suzuki SV650 static side view2017 Suzuki SV650 When the original SV650 was released back in 1999, no one blinked an eye. What possibly could this mid-sized V-twin offer that every 600 repli-racer or open-class superbike couldn’t. Then we all rode it, and were shocked to find that it offered an excellent balance of power, handling, and practicality to appeal to expert roadracers, commuters, and novices alike. Sorry Suzuki, but taking this bike out of your lineup (or dressing it up as the Gladius) was a mistake. We are stoked to see that the folks from Hamamatsu have come back to their senses.
2016 Yamaha XSR900 static side view2016 Yamaha XSR900 When Yamaha debuted the FZ-09 sport naked a few years back, we were instantly blown away by the performance of its 847cc crossplane crank, inline three-cylinder powerplant. Little did we know at the time, but there was plenty more variations to come using this engine/chassis package: First was the sport-touring FJ-09 and now the retro-styled XSR900. While many retro bikes are tame by modern standards, the XSR promises much higher performance than its rider’s cool, casual hipster riding gear might imply.
2016 Yamaha MT-10 static side view2016 Yamaha MT-10 Best keep our driver license in good standing while we can because we expect there’s a Yamaha R1-based naked headed our way, although Yamaha USA hasn’t committed to this one yet. But the beauty of bikes like the MT-10 is the versatility and performance they offer, just the things that entice us to spend a lot of playtime in the saddle. Being responsible adults, we should resist the urge to toggle off the electronic rider aids that are there to keep wheelstands and frolic in check, but maybe we’ll let the bike run free. At least if Yamaha decides to bring the bike to the US.
2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro static side view2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro Ducati is playing dirtier than ever and has a new entry into the ADV segment in the form of the Multistrada 1200 Enduro. Think superbike-derived technology adapted and applied for true off-road use. If the trails are half a continent away, no worries, as the Multistrada platform is a well-proven long-distance machine. We can’t wait to see where the 1200 Enduro’s 19-inch front tire leads us.
2017 BMW G310R static side view2017 BMW G310R You’re probably wondering how something with a single-cylinder 313cc engine could end up on our list of bikes we’re dying to ride in 2016. BMW’s G310R isn’t on this list because we expect its chassis or engine to completely blow us away on a weekend ride through the canyons, but rather because of what we think it could mean for the small-displacement category as a whole. This is BMW’s first entry-level motorcycle, and a big departure for a brand that has long been known for building high-end motorcycles that make performance a priority over a low price point. If the G310R is to the little bike category what the S1000RR is to the literbike class, or what the R1200GS Adventure has been to the adventure-touring category, then there will be a big shakeup within the small-bike world. Riding one will tell us just how big that shakeup will be, and so now we wait, gear in hand.
Aprilia RSV4 R-FW static side viewAprilia RSV4 R-FW (Factory Works) Please hold while we wipe the drool off of our keyboard after having looked at photos of Aprilia’s made-to-order RSV4 R-FW (Factory Works) for the hundredth time. Seriously, pictures of this thing just don’t get old, and perhaps the only thing better would be actually getting to ride one. Based off of Aprilia’s phenomenal RSV4, but built by the Aprilia Racing Team and available in five packages that vary in terms of power and electronics, it’s likely that very few people will actually have the chance to ever throw a leg over one. We probably fall in that group of people who won’t, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be sending a box of chocolates to the Aprilia guys every day for the next year with the hope that they’ll give in. This is probably the closest you’ll get to riding a world superbike, and we just want a few laps on one.
Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 static front 3/4 viewHusqvarna Vitpilen 401 Husqvarna’s Vitpilen 401 may look like a concept bike, but the manufacturer says that it is in fact going into production with this naked road bike, and we’re excited to ride one once it hits showroom floors. Swedish for White Arrow, the Vitpilen comes off as one of those bikes that would be perfect for darting through big-city traffic, and just overall fun to ride. Here’s to hoping the chance to do so comes sooner rather than later. 2016-Yamaha-MT-10-Ride-2016-2 2017-Kawasaki-Z125-Pro-Ride-2016 2016-Moto-Guzzi-V9-Bobber-Ride-2016 2017-Suzuki-GSX-R1000-Concept-Ride-2016 2017-Suzuki-SV650-Ride-2016 2016-Yamaha-XSR900-Ride-2016 2016-Yamaha-MT-10-Ride-2016 2016-Ducati-Multistrada-1200-Enduro-Ride-2016 2017-BMW-G310R-Ride-2016 Aprilia-RSV4-R-FW-Ride-2016 Husqvarna-Vitpilen-401-Ride-2016
