2017 Kia Niro Hybrid Features
Move over Augustus and Tiberius, there’s a new emperor in town. Kia has used the Chicago Auto Show as the platform to announce their latest new vehicle, the Niro. The 2017 Kia Niro hybrid features will make it a vehicle that combines the functionality of a crossover with the fuel economy of a hybrid.
The Niro will be a key part of the Kia’s initiative to produce an extensive lineup of green cars. The Niro is designed to provide excellent fuel economy while also delivering an element of style and practicality that has previously not been found in a hybrid utility vehicle.

The Niro starts everything with a new 103-horsepower Kappa 1.6 liter GDI four-cylinder engine. The engine is paired with a 43-horsepower tractive motor. These two systems work together to produce a total of 146 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. The Niro moves all this power using a newly designed six-speed dual-clutch transmission that helps to improve both fuel efficiency and performance.
Kia Niro Maximizes Space
The Niro’s 1.56-kWh Lithium Ion Polymer battery is hidden under the rear seat. Kia engineers were able to reduce the battery’s size, while maximizing its energy density, which in turn led to a reduction in the size of the engine as well. Kia is targeting a combined fuel economy of 50 miles per gallon.
Kia has taken all of these systems and wrapped them in the body of a sporty crossover. The Niro’s hybrid system has been designed to maximize driving performance. Special attention has been given to maximizing the Niro’s accelerating and braking capabilities.

The body of the Niro is strong, yet lightweight. Kia engineers are hoping that this new design helps the Niro earn high crash test scores from the NHTSA and IIHS.
