Automated Enforcement System (AES) aptly rebranded as AWAS

The entire Automated Enforcement System (AES) fiasco has been controversial since its introduction in September 2012. Despite being labeled as useless, it’s given a revamp and a new name along with it.

From this point onwards, the AES will be known as the Awareness Automated Safety System or AWAS. Like before, several cameras positioned along major highways and accident-prone areas will continue snapping speed offenders. AWAS will not blacklist offenders, but it has reportedly caught and issued over RM500 million worth of traffic summonses, with many of them unpaid.
