Pros: Broad range of powertrains and trim choices, including well-designed Hybrid and Energi plug-in-hybrid models; one of the quieter cars in the class; crisp-for-the-class handling
Cons: MyFord Touch interface isn’t very user-friendly; top-line trim levels are expensive; swoopy styling intrudes a bit on rear visibility
CG Says: For 2015, Ford’s midsize car sees a few minor updates and adds some features as standard equipment. A Terracotta appearance package, which includes 18-inch wheels and terracotta leather upholstery, is available on SE and Titanium models. SE and Titanium also get new six-way and ten-way power adjustable passenger seats, respectively. The Fusion is a solid offering from Ford. It has many strong areas, but there are a few weaknesses too. We really like the choice of several different powertrains. And we’ve been especially impressed with the refined 1.5- and 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines and the car’s very comfortable ride. The smooth Hybrid model is a positive, too. While Fusion’s EPA estimates are very promising, we’ve been disappointed in the mileage our test cars have returned. And we have to say we’re not convinced that MyFord Touch is a clear improvement over more traditional control interfaces. Fusion is certainly worth a look, and we think the best value is to be found in a modestly optioned SE.
