A trio of new light vans has been revealed overnight as part of a joint venture between PSA Peugeot Citroen and Toyota.

The new models, dubbed Peugeot Traveller, Citroen SpaceTourer and Toyota Proace, come as the result of an announcement in 2012 that PSA would build all three vans at its plant in Valenciennes, France.

Technical details for the new vans are still to come, although the companies have confirmed that all three will share identical mechanical packages.

The tie-up builds on an existing relationship between the two manufacturers, with the previous Proace based on the Peugeot Expert and the Citroen Dispatch.

Likewise, the French and Japanese companies also share platforms and technologies for the light Peugeot 108, Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo hatches.

All three new vans will be offered in commercial van and people-carrying MPV forms, with European market launches scheduled for the Geneva motor show in March next year.

As confirmed in 2012, the three vans are expected to be offered in Europe exclusively.

In Australia, the HiAce will continue as Toyota’s single van offering, while Citroen carries on with its small Berlingo van.

Peugeot Australia did away with its Partner and Expert vans earlier this year, with spokesperson Tyson Bowen telling CarAdvice at the time that the business is reviewing its strategy in the commercial vehicle segment.

CarAdvice has contacted local PSA Peugeot Citroen distributor Sime Darby for word on its latest plans.
