Autonomous vehicles have been gaining more and more attention recently. Just about every vehicle manufacturer is attempting to develop a self-driving car. Many autonomous features are starting to appear on vehicles. Features such as automatic braking and lane departure warning systems are all based on autonomous technology. Kia is one of the many manufacturers working to create an autonomous vehicle. Kia recently began autonomous road testing in Nevada.
The base for Kia’s entry into the autonomous competition is a Kia Soul EV. Nevada has been open to autonomous testing in the past, and Kia is not the first manufacturer to gain permission to begin road testing in the state.
Kia has partnered with sister company Hyundai to develop its autonomous technologies. The two companies are expected to invest $2 billion in the project by 2018. Kia is planning on introducing a range of partially-autonomous technologies to its lineup by the year 2020.
