At most car museums, visitors can only imagine what it’s like to hear the exhibits run, or to see them driven even at modest speeds. The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, however, isn’t like most automotive museums, and during its regularly scheduled “Demo Days,” visitors can experience the sights and sounds of select cars in the museum’s paved three-acre rear lot. For its final Demo Day event of the 2015 season, the Simeone is offering attendees the chance to select three cars from an impressive list of 64 candidates, ranging from sports cars to full-on racing cars.
The list spans nine decades, and includes everything from a 1912 National Model 40 Semi-Racing Roadster to the museum’s recent donation, a 1990 Nissan 300ZX Turbo. Though there are no bad choices among the 64 candidates, the more spectacular ones in the mix include the first 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, CSX2287; a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, on loan to the museum from Mr. Bernard Carl; a 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, chassis GS002; a 1967 Ford GT40 Mk IV raced by Lloyd Ruby and Denny Hulme at Le Mans in 1967; a 1958 Aston Martin DBR1 once raced by Sir Stirling Moss and later, Jim Clark; and a 1921 Duesenberg 183 Grand Prix race car, driven at the 1921 French Grand Prix by Joe Boyer.
Voting runs through Monday, November 23 at 5:00 p.m., with the winners to be announced on Tuesday, November 24. The last Demo Day of 2015 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 28, beginning at noon, and entry is included in the museum’s regular $12.00 adult admission.
