ROSSI’S APPEAL DENIED The Italian still must start the last spot on the grid at Valencia.

Valentino Rossi standing in front of the grid Valentino Rossi’s appeal to reverse the decision made by the FIM Stewards following his incident with Marc Marquez during the Malaysian Grand Prix has been dismissed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). As a result, the three penalty points issued by Race Direction and later confirmed by the FIM Stewards stand. Rossi, the MotoGP championship leader, will attempt to win his 10th world title this weekend in Valencia, Spain, from dead last, regardless of his qualifying position. After the race at Sepang, Race Direction determined Rossi had deliberately run wide to force Marquez off line, resulting in contact that caused Marquez to crash, unhurt. Per FIM regulations, a rider with four penalty points must start the next race from the last grid spot. Rossi filed a request for a stay on October 29 together with his appeal to have the penalty annulled or at least reduced. Professor Ulrich Haas, the CAS arbitrator appointed by mutual agreement of both parties, heard representatives of Rossi and the FIM on Wednesday at the CAS office in Lausanne, Switzerland. Haas found that conditions to grant the stay were not met, which means that the sanction imposed by FIM will be served in Valencia. Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi race action
