Porsche e-Hybrid Canadian Tour
Coming to a venue near you.
Most people can’t believe it, but it’s true- Porsche is the only manufacturer on Earth who currently offers three plug-in hybrid vehicles for sale. What makes this particularly interesting is Porsche is a manufacturer not known for their environmental stewardship. Rather, what makes Porsche such a well-known name amongst enthusiasts and regular folk alike is their lineup of beautiful high performance sports cars followed by their incomparable success on the racetrack. Case in point: Porsche’s 919 Hybrid took the top spot at Le Mans this year, giving the company an unparalleled 17th overall win at the storied racetrack.
Porsche felt it was time to educate people on the virtues of their e-Hybrid program. Rather than have customers and tire kickers make their way to their local dealership, Porsche is bringing the product to them at strategic locations across Canada so that shoppers can see and touch the vehicles in person. This significantly lowers any potential intimidation factor that may exist in keeping tentative buyers away from the showroom, not to mention the increased convenience factor.
We dropped in to one of the first such events at Yorkdale Mall in Toronto to see what’s what. After spending some time drooling over the 919 race car they had on hand, we watched as people from all walks of life came to get a closer look at the Cayenne e-Hybrid on hand with the “cool fluorescent wheel things” (they were referring to the brake calipers, but we digress.)
Those people will also be able to learn more about the benefits of e-Hybrid vehicles over their strictly gas fueled counterparts- lower operating costs, the ability to drive in the HOV lanes at any time and the satisfaction of driving something that is kind to our planet and its resources. All of these virtues used to come at the cost of, well, fun. For those that like to have their cake and eat it too, Porsche builds e-Hybrids with the principle that performance and environmental sustainability aren’t mutually exclusive. The Panamera and Cayenne e-Hybrid models boast 416 horsepower and can sprint to 100km/h in less than 6 seconds. And although the production run has come to a close, the 918 hyper car sets new benchmarks in eye-popping speed and performance while being able to return almost unbelievable consumption figures. Try that in your typical hybrid.
