With a dozen categories, the International Historic Motoring Awards honors more than just certain old cars that have made the scene over the last year. Museums, events, clubs, and specialists all get nods, as do those groups that help keep the global old car industry chugging along, such as McPherson College’s automotive restoration program, which this year secured a nomination for Industry Supporter of the Year.
“It’s a true honor to be a included as a finalist among some very significant competition,” said Amanda Gutierrez, the college’s vice president for auto restoration. “Our faculty, campus community, advisors and alumni are to be credited for getting us to this point.”
Though it’s the first time in the four-year history of the awards that McPherson has been nominated for an award, Gutierrez said she believes the nomination came because of the partnerships the program has with other award winners and nominees, including the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, and Mercedes-Benz Classic. “People are hearing about us and about our impact, largely through our alumni,” she said.

Other nominees for this year’s Industry Supporter of the Year award include Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, Porsche Motorsports North America, Hagerty, and the Royal Automobile Club. McPherson, a four-year liberal arts college in McPherson, Kansas, has offered its automotive restoration program since 1976 and claims to be the only school in the country to offer a bachelor’s degree in automotive restoration.
