Jeep Compass and Patriot replacement vehicle spied

The replacement for the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot has been snapped on public roads in the USA by our spy photography crew.

Under the skin, the car seen here is believed to be based on a stretched version of the platform underpinning the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X. The last car to be spun off from that platform is the Fiat Toro ute, which will be sold primarily in Latin America.

The new car is intended to replace both the Jeep Compass and Patriot, both of which went on sale in 2006.

As such, the new SUV is expected to be sized between the 4230mm Renegade and the 4623mm Cherokee. The current Compass and Patriot both measure around 4.4m in length.

From what we can see, the new crossover vehicle will have a more traditional take on the brand’s traditional seven-slot grille, rather than the half-upright, half-canted backwards version used on the latest-generation Cherokee.

To highlight the brand’s off-roading history, the new car will also feature blistered fenders with squared off wheel arches. We expect all-wheel drive to be optional on many models.

Jim Morrison, head of marketing at Jeep, hinted to CarAdvice earlier this year that the new Compass and Patriot replacement vehicle probably won’t arrive in showrooms across the world until 2017 at the earliest.

Despite their age, the Patriot and Compass twins have been solid sellers for Jeep. In 2014, sales of the duo were up 39 percent to 254,000 units worldwide, meaning that together they accounted for around 25 percent of Jeep’s 2015 sales of 1,017,000 vehicles.
