Ah, the most misunderstood of all vehicles: the base model pony car. The whole point of pony cars, after all, going back to the thinking behind the Mustang, was to provide a blank canvas for the buyer to beef up, tart up, and otherwise personalize from new, and pony car buyers obliged for years afterward – that is, all but the original owner and subsequent owners of this 1979 Pontiac Firebird, a car without spoilers, graphics, gauges, or really any options other than the V-8 and automatic transmission. Seems to have kept well over the years too. From the seller’s description:
Original low option survivor car in amazing unrestored condition. No body rust. 301 V8, 2brl carb, automatic trans, rear window defrost, original hub caps, interior in very good original condition. New headliner. Dash is perfect. Only 76,000 original miles. The front end was refurbished last winter, new bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends. New shocks all around. New radiator. Tagged and inspected for daily use. 20 MPG mixed highway driving. Good tires. Sound brakes and exhaust. Does not burn or use oil. Low maintenance. Beautiful lines. Original AM Radio was replaced with new digital AMFM with input jack. The AM radio goes with the car. The dash was not cut. A real survivor. Has a scratch or two. Restore to perfect like new or drop in a 400 V8, or just drive it to work every day as is. Its my understanding that this car spent much of its life sitting idle in a garage. Ive had it about 8 years and it still stays in the garage most of the time. Ive put about 10,000 miles on it driving it to work once in a while.
