Hemmings Find of the Day – 1951 Studebaker Champion

Studebaker’s “bullet-nosed” styling caused a sensation when it was introduced for 1950, and continued for 1951 with only slight revisions. Though the look lasted just two years, Studebaker built more than 600,000 examples in that time. This 1951 Studebaker Champion for sale on Hemmings.com appears to be a De Luxe two-door sedan, judging from the style number on its body tag, although it has the simpler steering wheel and painted headlamp bezels of the stripped-down Custom line. Like all 1951 Champions, it’s powered by the 170-cu.in. flathead straight-six, belting out 85 horsepower.

As it’s already been repainted, a good amount of the car’s originality has been lost, which suggests to us that it might make a good restoration candidate. If you love Fifties cars, and want to stand apart at the next show, a Studebaker is a great alternative to one of the Big Three. From the seller’s description:

Very original unmolested car, 6 cylinder flathead runs very good, 3 speed on the colum, drives well, everything works (heater core is disconnected), interior is orignal, has an older paint job, but looks good.
