For one of the better-known of Edsel Ford’s series of speedsters, it’s rather amazing there’s just one replica of it (that we know of) running around, the Italian-built 1934 Ford that we featured earlier this year and that is now for sale on Hemmings.com. The one-of-a-kind replica of a one-of-a-kind car isn’t merely for show, either, with a drivetrain built for not infrequent jaunts around the northern Italian countryside. From the seller’s description:
my personal tribute to Edsel Bryant Ford’s ’34 model 40 Special Speedster.
I put 2700 miles on it along two seasons, being a perfect cruiser, reliable, fast, powerfull, enjoyable even for hours of drive, as it’s not only a “trailer queen”.
Originally Lincoln Motor Co. on the ’51 Cosmopolitan equipped with GM Hydra-Matic a/t, installed the Dana 53 rear axle with 3.31 gear ratio, now I converted to 2.41 that allows excellent performance and confort, mated to a 4 spd manual transmission for a sporty satisfaction.
The car is located 3 miles from MXP Milan Malpensa Intl. Airport, Italy: I’m glad to personally welcome potential buyers at the airport and taking for a long test drive on Lake Maggiore shores.
