EICMA 2015 FIRST LOOK: BMW R nineT Scrambler Another R nineT flavor is added to BMW’s roadster range.

BMW R nineT Scrambler static side view at EICMA 2015 With scramblers all the buzz these days, it’s no surprise that BMW decided to make a variation of its retro-styled R nineT boxer twin and call it Scrambler. A few new styling touches and mechanical changes transform the bike into a go-anywhere, do-anything machine. Or maybe a go-many-places, do-many-things machine. Because while high exhaust pipes, gaiter-wrapped fork legs, new five-spoke cast wheels wrapped in either Metzeler Tourance or chunkier Karoo 3 tires, give the bike a more aggressive look, it’s not exactly a fully fledged adventure bike. Still, the result is nice mix between the R nineT’s elegant lines and the adventurous image of a scrambler. Although the bike looks compact due to its simplistic and svelte design, the bike’s wheelbase spans a substantial 60.1 inches. For those occasional sorties down a gravel road, the Scrambler features more travel front and rear than the R nineT. Up front, stroke now measures 4.9 in., with the rear-wheel is afforded 5.5 (compared to 4.7 front and rear on the standard bike). This also raised the seat height substantially from the standard model’s 30.9 to the Scrambler’s 32.3 inches. Front-end geometry numbers indicate good stability with 28.5 degrees of rake and 110mm trail. Like its sibling, the frame is supported by a steel-tube structure. Claimed curb weight is 485 pounds. Brembo brakes front and rear include standard ABS, while Automatic Stability Control will be available as an option. Pricing and availability have not been released; so stay tuned for more information.
