EICMA 2015 FIRST LOOK: 2016 Indian Scout Sixty Cruiser Indian debuts a 999cc Scout with a much lower price and builds five flat track customs!
The reborn Scout has been Indian's biggest hit and the new Scout Sixty is set to open the bike up to an even wider audience. Step one was reducing displacement to 999cc or 60 cubic inches, down from the 1133cc/69-cubic-inch big Scout. Helping to lower price to $8999 is a five speed transmission instead a six speed, reduced use of chrome and no ABS. A smaller bore size of 93mm drops displacement from the 96mm pistons of the original Scout. Claimed output is 78 horsepower, 12 down on the bigger bike. Torque is said to be 65 pound-feet at its peak and is described as “linear.” That would be in keeping with the character of the understressed larger Scout, certainly. The best news is that sweet handling chassis and suspension are identical. Claimed dry weight is 542 pounds and seat height is 25.3 inches. The $8999 version is available in Thunder Black, while Indian Motorcycle Red and White Pearl colors cost $9,299. After being shown in Italy, five customized versions were debuted at the Long Beach International Motorcycle Show November 20. Designer and builder was Roland Sands Design, and five machines were built to race in the “Super Hooligan” streetbike class at the Superprestigio dirt track in Las Vegas November 21. Journalists were invited to warehouse races near the Long Beach show venue prior to departure to Las Vegas. The original Scout's value has helped it be the sales leader in Indian's lineup, and the new Scout Sixty looks to broaden that success.
