A mighty collection of new on-road photos for the next-generation 2016 Renault Megane have been handed down today, ahead of the five-door hatch’s global launch next year.

Revealed at September’s Frankfurt motor show, the new Megane arrives as a successor to the now seven year-old third-generation model, which benefited from a key facelift in 2014.

The new Megane joins its most recent stablemates in wearing Renault’s new family look, which includes a diving grille design up front that reaches out into the headlights for a unified wing-like design.

This look is now featured across the Renault range, in some cases as a facelift of earlier models. For the new Megane, as with the big new Talisman – and the recently spied successor to the Koleos SUV – that look also includes a pair of sharp LED hooks that reach down into the front bumper.

Underpinning the new Megane is Renault Nissan’s new CMF-CD platform, which forms the basis of models like the Euro-market Renault Kadjar, Espace and Talisman, and Nissan’s Qashqai, X-Trail and Euro-market Pulsar.

Renault’s new-generation small hatch measures 4359mm long and 1447mm tall, making it 64mm longer but 25mm lower than its predecessor, while riding on a 28mm longer wheelbase.

Depending on the market, the 2016 Megane will be offered with four petrol and five diesel engines, although a much smaller selection is likely for Australia.

New 152kW petrol and 123kW diesel GT models will headline the regular Megane range, with the former replacing the 162kW/340Nm GT220 model.

These models will act as rivals to the likes of Volkswagen’s Golf GTI and GTD offerings.

The new Megane will hit Australia in the second half of 2016.
