2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Wins “Best Value on the Road”

The Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year awards, which recently took place this year in Chandler, Arizona, named the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander the best vehicle in its class. The ALV awards bring Arizona athletes together with automotive journalists from across the country to test-drive and review new vehicles. Some of the ALV judging criteria are similar to other reviewers’: safety, performance, handling. Others, not so much. For instance: How quickly can you load bikes and camping gear into an Outlander? How easy is it to clean mud off the seats after the weather turns bad during your hike?

Competition was tough for the Mitsubishi Outlander. All “Best Value on the Road” contenders were all-wheel drive vehicles priced at $35,000 or less, including top competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and the Subaru Forester. So, what did ALV reviewers like about the 2016 Outlander?

First and foremost, they praised its versatility. The Outlander’s 4-WD system can be operated in three different modes besides the standard AWD. Eco mode saves power by only engaging the second axle if the wheels are starting to slip. Lock mode gives extra traction for the most challenging conditions, while snow mode starts the car in a higher gear to avoid slipping on wet roads. The improved electric power steering system handles well under all sorts of conditions as well.

The 2016 Outlander’s second and third-row seating is comfortable, with plenty of room for passengers, and also very easy to fold flat for cargo space. Safety was another big plus. The Outlander earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Standard safety features include seven airbags, antilock brakes, traction control, stability control, and hill start assist.

So, if you’re into road trips, camping, and outdoor hobbies, this is a stellar recommendation from a group of reviewers who know exactly what’s important. Even if you’re not, the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander has a lot to offer. Check out our inventory here!
