2016 Honda CB500F to Debut at EICMA

Honda released some preview images for an updated CB500F, following similar updates recently given to its siblings, the CB500X and CBR500R. The 2016 CB500F will make its world premiere next week at EICMA in Milan, before making its U.S. debut at the Long Beach International Motorcycle Show, Nov. 20-22.

Overlaying the 2014 CB500F over the teaser image, we can see some of the styling changes. The radiator shrouds are smaller, revealing more of the cylinder heads. The tail is also different, with a new passenger seat but no handholds. The passenger pegs are also further forward, likely to make room for the new exhaust.

The new exhaust design matches the one on the updated CBR500R. When Honda announced the CBR’s updates, it noted the new muffler design improves mass centralization, reduces weight and improves the exhaust note.

From the other teaser image, we know the CB500F will receive an LED headlight like the other 500 models, and Honda says the taillight will use LEDs as well.

Other updates include a 0.3 gallon increase in fuel capacity to 4.4 gallons, a preload-adjustable fork and an adjustable brake lever.

The 471cc parallel-Twin engine should remain the same, as it did on the CBR500R and CB500X. Honda said the R and X models have improved gear change feel and we expect the same for the F.

We’ll have more when the Honda CB500F and other new 2016 models are revealed next week at EICMA.
