Last July, LeMay – America’s Car Museum debuted an exhibit entitled American Muscle: Rivals to the End, which portrayed the never-ending struggle for street and strip supremacy among American manufacturers with a display of 20 classic muscle cars. Now the museum is looking to extend the exhibit, but with an emphasis on restomods, and it needs your help to do so.
American Muscle – Modified Madness is set to open on December 10, but the museum needs more loaner cars to round out the exhibit. Those within a reasonable distance of the museum’s Tacoma, Washington, home are invited to submit their 1964 – 1972 restomod muscle cars for display consideration, but the clock is ticking: submissions must be received by the museum no later than November 10, 2015.
Each submission must contain the owner’s name and contact information, along with a short biography and a current photograph of the car. While the museum doesn’t precisely define the term restomod, it does describe them as “cars that have been contemporized in appearance and/or performance.” In other words, a Day Two 1969 Camaro probably won’t catch the museum’s eye, whereas a pro-touring build of a 1969 Camaro just might. Seen above is Jason Rushforth’s 1964 Buick Skylark Sport Coupe, which now sports a 2005 Corvette’s LS2 V-8, mated to a six-speed manual transmission, along with an aftermarket suspension setup and four-wheel disc brakes.
In addition to bragging rights, each lender will receive a one-year museum membership for the loan of his (or her) vehicle. Interested? Send your particulars to Exhibits@LeMayMuseum.org.
