Though not a fleet vehicle, per se, it’s likely this 1982 GMC Rally Wagon for sale on Hemmings.com got fleet vehicle care in its first life without all the accompanying fleet vehicle mileage, which is likely why it remains both unrestored and free of the insidious rust-through typical of Northeastern vehicles. It also remains quite useful, as the seller attests, so it may still be up for a few more years of service rather than a one-way ticket to the resto shop. From the seller’s description:
We purchased this van 10 years ago for general help in moving into our first house as renting a van started to get expensive. When we first purchased it it had only 51,000 original miles!! The van was originally owned by a local chapter of a national non-profit organization and was used only for short, local trips in the time they had it. A few years back I had the good fortune of meeting a former employee of the non-profit who almost fainted when she saw the van in my drive! She recalled fondly when she used to drive it during her tenure there and attested to its sparing use.
I would drive it only when I needed the massive amount of cargo space this van offers, so it was driven sporadically (less than 1000 mi./yr. although it was registered and insured continuously up until 2014). the current mileage is 58,xxx
The original 305 ci motor runs flawlessly and the choke still works properly. The automatic trans shifts well and all the running gear is in acceptable condition. The van is still operational and can be test-driven.
Since I used it primarily as a cargo van the 2 bench seats were removed but stored inside my shop; they are in good condition and are included. the rear rubberized padding for the cargo area is in poor condition.
Due to the limited use of this van there is virtually no rust on it at all. there are some area of surface rust but no rust through and no rot on any of the floors, body or frame
Windshield is cracked and there are some nicks and dents that I have attempted to depict in the photos; Van will certainly need to be refinished if it is to be brought up to original appearance.
I have clear Pa title to this vehicle. Comes with two sets of keys (one set is original GM keys)
