Hemmings Find of the Day – 1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst Edition

1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst Edition

Built in limited quantities for the 1970 model year, the Chrysler 300 Hurst Edition carries the distinction of being among the largest two-door coupes produced in modern times. Measuring nearly 19 feet from stem to stern and weighing well over two tons, the luxury muscle car and 300 letter series continuation received a dose of added performance courtesy of the Hurst parts catalog. As delivered, the car’s 440-cu.in. “TNT” V-8 produced 375 horsepower, enough to get the custom fuselage Chrysler from 0 to 60 in just a tick over seven seconds, not bad for a car of its mass. This well-preserved example, for sale on Hemmings.com, once graced the pages of the Chrysler 300 Club’s calendar, and reportedly shows just over 78,000 miles on the odometer. The seller is clear that it’s in very good, but not perfect, condition, and still needs hardened valve seats to cope with modern unleaded fuel. From the seller’s description:

1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst Edition VIN #: CM23UOC230920

This car is a nice presentable driver. Please take a look at the attached pictures we took of it this past spring. It has won lots of awards.

If you have a 2012 Chrysler 300 Club Calendar, a picture of this Hurst is the month of December.

Car has its A12 and AC build tags attached to the body radiator frame and is, as far as we know, a numbers matching Chrysler 300 Hurst Edition. This is your chance to own a nice stock example of this rare automobile. Production was 502 units. If you are reading this, you already know what this car is and so do we. You seldom see these cars for sale in this good of a condition. This is a very presentable car. It’s not perfect, but it is a good example of Mopar muscle. It is too good to restore. It comes with its factory shop manual, technical information, some sales literature etc.

Car’s odometer reads about 78,000 miles. During the 28 years of our ownership we have driven it mainly to Chrysler Club meets, local car shows, on some pleasure trips and on some nice weekends. We bought it all those years ago from a large private car collection estate sale. It has always been stored indoors. We have properly maintained it ourselves this whole time. It starts, drives and stops fine. You can drive it home but due to modern no lead/alcohol gas it now needs the heads done with hardened valve seats installed. The transmission is fine and all tires are excellent. If you want them, we still have the set of original style Goodyear Wide Oval glass belted tires that came on it when we got it.

We need to find another good home for it in order to make room for our newly, refurbished 1960 model.
