Introduced in late 1946 as a 1947 model, the Renault 4CV was the French automaker’s first new postwar effort, and in 1949, the tiny French sedan arrived on these shores. Better suited to the narrow lanes and congested cities of Europe, the 760cc, 19-horsepower import managed to find enough customers in America to keep the brand growing, paving the way for the 1957 introduction of the better-known Dauphine. This 1954 Renault 4CV, for sale on Hemmings.com, appears to have spent the bulk of its life in Europe, and was imported here from Holland. A later model, it should come equipped with the 747cc four-cylinder, which boosted output to a still-modest 23 horsepower. Described as clean and rust-free, with a two-decade old restoration, the Renault needs a bit of upholstery and paint touch-up, but otherwise appears ready to show or drive, albeit at a leisurely pace.
