2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin studio rear view News about Honda’s highly anticipated new ADV bike, the 2016 CRF1000L Africa Twin, keeps trickling in. Here’s the latest on this long-distance explorer, which arrives in the spring of 2016: The Africa Twin equipped with the standard gearbox will be priced at $12,999. The DCT version (equipped with a dual-clutch automatic transmission) is a bit more, at $13,699. Both models will have ABS as standard, plus traction control, which the company calls is Honda Selectable Torque Control. On both models, the ABS and TC can be shut off, for added control in the dirt. Other interesting details have come to light: For instance, the DCT model will be available with a foot shifter to give riders a more traditional feel (In stock form, DCT shifts automatically or via buttons on the left handlebar). Other ADV accessories aimed at satisfying the ADV crowd include side cases, a top box, heated grips, and an electrical socket. The 2016 Africa Twin is powered by a new dry-sump 998cc SOHC parallel twin designed to have a low center of gravity. For compactness, parts such as oil tank, oil pump and water pump are all incorporated into the engine. What’s more, the battery of this new Honda ADV bike is mounted close to the engine, near the vehicle’s center. 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin studio side view For off-road durability, the 2016 Africa Twin has good ground clearance, an aluminum skid plate, and a double-cradle frame made of high-tensile steel. With a minimum of parts that stick out, plus a relatively narrow cross-section, the Africa Twin has been designed with real-world dirt use in mind. There’s 9.1 inches of front suspension travel, and 8.7 in the rear. Compression and rebound are adjustable front and rear, and rear spring preload can be altered to accommodate changing loads. Seat height of the Africa Twin’s standard adjustable saddle is a lofty 34.3 inches, but an accessory low version drops that level to 32.3. With the dirt in mind, Honda has equipped the 2016 CRF1000L Africa Twin with wire-spoke wheels and tube tires, plus hollow aluminum axles, wave-style brake rotors, and a rubber-mounted aluminum handlebar. Also, the air filters can be accessed without removing the fuel tank. Lastly, that big upright windscreen is designed to minimize buffeting at highway speed, while housing bright LED headlights and protecting a vertically stacked instrument panel. “The CRF1000L Africa Twin is one of the most exciting new products of the 2016 model year,” summarizes Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “No fewer than 32 patents have been applied for on this innovative model, and its specifications surpass the competition in several important areas. We know our customers have been hungry for a no-compromise, do-it-all adventure bike, and we’re confident that the Africa Twin fits the bill.” We can’t wait to verify his claims… OTHER HONDA NEWS FOR 2016 --The CBR300F will be available in black. --The Gold Wing, apart from some new colors, is unchanged. --The Gold Wing F6B is available in a new Matte Pearl White. --The Fury cruiser, in a move designed to increase its aggression, loses its passenger seat and passenger pegs. 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin action. 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin action. 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin studio. 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin studio. 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin studio. 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin studio.
