No, you probably won’t get invited to a Korean War re-enactment in this 1952 Willys M38 for sale on Hemmings.com, a military Jeep that’s been modified here and there to the seller’s wishes and needs. But if it weren’t for those modifications, it’s not likely this Willys would still be around, given that the seller appears to have started with what many would consider a parts rig. From the seller’s description:
I have owned this jeep for 7 years and brought it back from the dead! Original engine and transmission. Both in excellent working order. Replaced the clutch within last 100 miles. New brake lines and shoes all around. Replaced the floor with a NOS floor and welded in using original weld spots. After market toolbox with Willys script. After market left front fender. Orignal 24 volt system intact except for coil which the PO “converted” to 12 volts, easily returned to 24 volt if desired. Frame off preservation, not restoration. Frame is in excellent shape and has been sandblasted and primed with Aluthane, topcoated black Under chassis same. Right rear quarterpanel repaired with metal. This jeep has no rust and will not develop any for a long time! Fuel gauge works but the sender is iffy. Oil pressure and amps guages functional. Water temp needs new sender unit. Canvas seat covers are new and period accurate. Comes with boxes of extra parts. Includes a roll cage and two hard tops. Tops will make one good unit when parts combined. Hardtop has doors with functional intact windows! Also have a soft top and doors. Soft top would benefit from some minor repairs and the doors need to be recanvased. New rubber at cowl and around windshield. Electric fuel pump installed. Original pump available for rebuild.
This jeep is a blast to drive and draws attentiion whenever it is on the road. The 60 hp “Go Devil” engine will take you anywhere you want, you just won’t get there fast! Tops out at 60mph but seems to like 45 to 50 mph for cruising.
