From Zano Zymurgy, one of our Facebook readers and a longtime fan of our carspotting series, comes today’s carspotting photo, initially labeled “Mainstreet USA.” We knew we could do better than that, though, so we started looking through the photo for hints to its location. Champlin Oil had gas stations all throughout the Midwest, so that doesn’t help much, especially considering the straight and flat roads here. But the Baird Hotel and Hotel Windsor on the opposite corner provide a vital clue – we see a reference of both in Garden City, Kansas, and indeed, we see many of these same buildings still standing there in a modern-day Street View. What do you see here, and what year do you suppose the photo was taken?
