Last April, rumors of a four-door version of the Mercedes-AMG GT started spreading. According to AutoBild, which was the source of the speculation, the sports car will be called the Mercedes-AMG GT4.
The report said it will be the answer of Mercedes to the Porsche Panamera, Audi A7 and BMW 6-Series GranCoupe. The article also released a rendering of the car to provide readers a better picture of what to expect from it.
Recently, automotive graphic artist Theophilus Chin released his own rendering of the car. He provided a front and rear image of the vehicle.
The new rendering seems to be better than the one we featured before as this captured more the essence of the Mercedes-AMG GT with its horizontal grille. The previous photo from AutoBild looked bulkier too while this one shows a more agile architecture.
Will the Four-Door Mercedes-AMG GT See the Light of Day?
There are doubts though if the Mercedes-AMG GT4 will make it to production level. Mercedes-AMG CEO categorically dismissed making a four-door version of the GT in his interview with Australia’s Motoring website.
Moers explained that the platform of the car cannot support that kind of architecture. However, he said that they are open to the idea of making a sedan exclusive to the AMG badge. Furthermore, he revealed that they are planning to make a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series in the future.
Second, if Mercedes is only eyeing a competition to the Panamera, it should be noted that they already have the CLS. So making another car for that purpose would be questionable.
