What’s New for the 2016 Kia Optima
All eyes are on the Optima as we begin welcoming it back for 2016 in its freshly updated form which has taken on a more sleek and smoothed out front end that wraps around and segues into the rest of the Optima’s body. What’s new for the 2016 Kia Optima, now entering its third generation, we find a number of changes both physically and in terms of features.
Exterior Updates
Entering the next generation, the Kia Optima grows in size, becoming ever-so-slightly longer, taller, and wider. To be exact, it has grown by four inches to overall improve the amount of leg, hip, and shoulder space passengers will have, making for an even more comfortable cabin.
With the new, narrower grille, the headlights now sweep back around the front of the Optima and tuck away into the fenders
Interior Updates
Due to the growth spurt, the Optima also now has a slightly larger trunk for additional storage.
Other improvements include more soft touch materials used from back to front and a more modern design. The main goal was to create a refined look, so everything was tidied up and made more accessible to the driver
Ride Improvements
The Optima isn’t Kia’s luxury sedan, but that doesn’t mean that the ride shouldn’t be comfortable and smooth. Handling has been improved so that the vehicle is more responsive when the wheel is turned and during acceleration and braking. The ride is smooth, rather than bumpy and noisy; and this isn’t just because the seats were improved in the Optima.
Three engine choices are offered for the 2016 Kia Optima: the 1.6L turbo which produces 178 hp, the 2.4L 4-cylinder with 185 hp, and then the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder which cranks up an impressive 247 hp. In order to improve efficiency across each of the engines, they have been re-tuned and so the output of power has slightly decreased as a result.
