Sometimes, in February of last year, KTM boss Stefan Pierer had mentioned that complex platforms with 500 cc and 800 cc engines are planned for production in India, adding that the high import duty makes domestic production the only way to successfully sell bicycles in the country. Now, the German motorcycle magazine Motorrad spotted a test mule of what could be a possible 800 cc Duke. Well, spy images are sent to the August issue magazine, but their website already has a ready made.
The render suggests that the upcoming “KTM Duke 800” bear the family likeness of the Duke and naked streetfighter character. In the 690, the big brother will get two front disc brakes and different style, yet familiar. Furthermore, the publication also suggests that the 800 will feature a new engine parallel twin, which will span the gap between single-cylinder engine equipped with Duke 690 and high-end Super Duke 1,290 R with its Twin pack cylinders.
Regarding the other 500 cc KTM that Pierer had mentioned about, no new reports on that, but it is also highly anticipated. Both motorcycles are expected to be launched late next year or in 2017. In all probability, they will be produced at KTM’s only production facility in India, which is Bajaj’s plant in Chakan, Pune. Stay tuned for more information on the KTM Duke 800 as it comes by.
