Hemmings Find of the Day – 1949 International KB-1

Given that it already runs and drives and has had its seats reupholstered, it sounds like all this 1949 International KB-1 woodie wagon for sale on Hemmings.com needs is a gas tank, then it’ll be ready for the road once again. Indeed, from the photos and the video, it looks complete and in serviceable shape. From the seller’s description:

This is a family car that we have owned since 1950. It has been stored its entire life. The engine and wood had been rebuilt/restored in 1970. The interior upholstery is new but done in the same style as original. The vehicle is in its original condition, no modifications with the exception of an electric fuel pump instead of mechanical. We have recently completely reconditioned the brakes. This is a one-of-a-kind vehicle. This has been a family treasure, but our 95 year old mother is ready to sell. Please respect our desire to sell this to a new owner that wants to keep it in its original condition.

In 1970, the family’s youngest son rebuilt the engine and reconditioned all the wood, replaced the canvas roof, etc. Over the years other family members have had the seats redone, the bodywork painted, another newer canvas roof replaced. I consider this antique car to be 95 percent completely restored. There are still a few minor things that it needs to be completely long road trip worthy. For instance, the original gas tank has a lot of rust and was causing problems with the carburetor, so currently it is running with a 2 gallon plastic tank mounted under the hood. It will need a new tank slung under the chassis to be able to take long trips, but I believe that might be its only issue for sound running. Starts and runs great.
