Yamaha has confirmed it will produce the MT-03, a larger-displacement version of the MT-25 announced for Indonesia in June. The news wasn’t unexpected, as it follows the pattern established by the faired YZF-R25 and YZF-R3, but this is the first official confirmation of the MT-03. Still to be determined is whether the MT-03 will be available in the U.S., where it would likely be called the FZ-03.
The MT-03 shares most of the R3’s specifications. Instead of the sportbike’s twin headlights, the naked model follows the pattern of the larger MT/FZ models with a single headlight. The MT-03 weighs about 8.8 pounds lighter than the R3. The naked model also swaps out the R3’s clip-ons for a wider handlebar that offers a more upright seating position.
We expect Yamaha Motor U.S.A. to announce the FZ-03 soon. We will provide more information about U.S. availability, pricing and color options once it’s all confirmed.
