2015 Studebaker Drivers Club Meet, Talmadge, Ohio - Part 2

We'll start the second installment of our series on last Saturday's Studebaker Drivers Club meet in Talmadge with a look at the Larks.

Hark!

'61 wagon & '64 Daytona convertibleThe most exalted of the whole exaltation was this wickedly weaponized Wagonaire.

"We've got something for you to see/It's the swingingest wagon that'll ever be...."I normally don't go for hot rod black, but the teal accents (and matching shoes) really set it off.

"...You'll never see anything to compare/To the Lark Daytona Wagonaire!"The prime mover is suitably ferocious.  Not sure what the function of the beer can on the firewall is, though.

Vrooom! Here's one more Lark to take note of, should you be looking for a project car.

Please adopt me.The body appears to be solid, and he seller claims it's mechanically sound.

Also offered for sale, a Champ, the Lark's brawny blue-collar cousin.

"I think it just needs a little love."This one has some substantial rust issues along the bottom of the doors and where the cowl meets the fenders--but it also has a 4-speed, and the bed is in decent shape.

The truck selection was a little thin compared to previous years...

C-CabC-Cab, "Trick my Truck" edition...but it included a couple of real gems.  The first is this Studebaker sleeper cab (not-quite-so-) big rig...

"Hello, I'm a truck."...restomodded with a Cummins diesel.

More horsepower than some diesel locomotives. The other was this delicious 1934 Diamond T Model 211FF farm truck.

The hay bales were a nice touch. The flathead straight six is typical of the times.Moving uptown to the Packard section...
"Old car, caviar, four-star day-dream...."...we encounter quite a few of the "inverted bathtub" 22nd Series built from 1948 to 1950.

"...four-star day-dream...""...think I'll buy me a football team."I also saw several of the 1951-54 "high pockets" body style...
1951 Caribbean 1954 sedan--last of the straight eights....including this dazzling gold-plated beauty.
"They say...gold is the king" --J.J. CaleThere were also a couple of "last generation" 1955-56 V-8 Packards,...
A familiar friend from past meets....the badge-engineered 1957-58 Packardbakers,...
"Thinkin' 'bout the times you drove in my car...." "...Thinkin' that I might have drove you too far." --Cream, "Badge"...and a sizable contingent of prewar Packards including a brace of amazing convertibles.
Wow. Double wow.Speaking of amazing convertibles, we also had this fabulous Hudson Hornet,...
Absolutely......this equally lovely '41 Buick,...
I really would rather have this Buick....and this eye-popping red "bullet nose."

Pop! Pop!The most amazing of all was the Auburn 852 Speedster.

Last of the "boat-tails."No, this is not a replica; it's the real thing,...

One of designer Gordon Buehrig's best works....complete with a supercharged Lycoming straight eight...

Note the fancy air cleaner on the Stromberg carb....and a dash plaque certifying the top speed.

Actually, only 20% of the Speedsters were tested--but tested or not, it could break into triple digits with ease.In tomorrow's installment, we'll finish up the rest of the Studes and gaze in horror on some 1970s personal luxury cars.
