BMW has just unveiled a new motorcycle concept that’s inspired by the surf of Southern France. Named after a forest-hidden trail that leads to a secret beach, The BMW Concept Path 22 is meant to convey a specific way of life and reconnect riders with the roots of surf and motorcycle culture.
Scramblers do not follow any standards or conventions. They are made to be unique, just like their owners. Concept Path22 is the first interpretation of a scrambler by BMW Motorrad, based on the R nineT. It was developed by the most creative and maverick minds in the customization scene. A bike that makes every form of freedom conceivable, leaves nothing to be desired but makes everything possible.
Inspired by BMW’s R NineT scrambler model, the The Concept Path 22 was designed in partnership with artist Ornamental Conifer and Surfboard Shaper Mason Dyer of Dyer Brand. Like other scramblers, The Concept Path 22 is meant for off-road adventure, but it’s aesthetics are also meant to cater a certain lifestyle.
The BMW Concept Path22 is a modern interpretation of the scramblers from the 50s. Then, as today, they stood for absolute passion and limitless freedom. With the R nineT as a basis, the individual paintwork and a focus on the best possible quality, the Concept Path22 is more than just a motorbike – it is a mix of style and originality, freedom and individuality. Pure riding thrills are guaranteed.
The bike was announced at the Wheels and Waves festival, a vibrant celebration of surf, art, and motorcycle culture in the small beach town of Biarritz, France. The Concept Path 22 captures “everything that makes the Wheels & Waves people, festival, and lifestyle so special,” and exhibits the philosophy of the festival’s founders.
The stitched leather seats, stainless-steel tailpipes, and milled aluminum rims give the bike a minimalist feel which is meant to bring riders back to the essence of riding. A company press release explains that all parts of the concept bike are necessary essentials and offer the very best quality. In this way, the BMW Concept Path 22 perfects the art of reduction and harks back to the very essence that gives motorcycling its underlying appeal: the unity of man and machine.
The design makes the bike unique, but The Concept Path 22 focuses efforts on enhancing the riding experience. Dyer Brand outfitted a surfboard carrier into the side of the bike, showcasing how riders can do the things they love with a utility vehicle.
For now, The Concept Path 22 is just an idea, but it sheds light on what can be the future of custom, culturally-aware, and versatile motor vehicles.
