Today, the thought of an affordable mid-engine, rear-drive sport coupe from a domestic manufacturer seems like the stuff of science fiction, but in the mid-1980s Pontiac was selling such a car (or at least trying to sell such a car) from its dealerships. Early examples had a poor reputation for reliability, but by 1986, its third year in production, Pontiac had worked out many of the car’s bugs. The fastback body style, worn by this one-owner 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT, for sale on Hemmings.com, was also new for 1986, and gave the car a racy look not quite backed up by the performance of its 2.8-liter V-6. Flaws aside, the Fiero remains a car ahead of its time, and an affordable entry into the collector car hobby for those with a penchant for mid-1980s GM designs. From the seller’s description:
1986 Fiero GT with 53,778 original miles, 2.8l V6/Muncie 4 speed. This is a one owner original vehicle. Purchased all options but leather seats and engine block heater. Upstate NY location, no winters always garaged. Red with gray interior. Owner manuals, shop manual and cover. Original paper work including window sticker available. This is a fun car, I hope the next owner has as much fun with it as we have. No modifications have been made this vehicle is is all original or OEM replacements.
