There are a few trucks from other brands that could emulate the outstanding features of the Mercedes-Benz Unimog. One thing that makes this monster stand out from its rivals is its capability to withstand harsh terrains and environmental conditions—be it in the desert, snow, ice, or flooded areas.
Due to its nearly unparalleled features, it was chosen by the readers of the specialist journal “Off Road” as the Best Cross Country Vehicle of the Year under the “special-purpose vehicle” segment. The truck garnered 51.4 percent votes in the poll, giving it the first place among its rivals.
It should be noted that the journal has been conducting similar polls since 1982. Therefore, the event is in its 33rd year now.
The all-terrain Mercedes-Benz Unimog boasts a fording depth of 1.2 meters, 45 degrees slope climbing capability, all-wheel drive system, and other applications for on- and off-road conditions. It is powered by a 5.1 liter displacement four-cylinder BlueTec 6 common-rail OM 934 LA engine. The output of its power unit can go up to 230 hp and 900 Nm of torque.
Recently, the Unimog was one of the Mercedes-Benz units featured in the latest installment of the Jurassic Park franchise titled “Jurassic World.” It was customized in the film to function as a mobile veterinary unit for the prehistoric creatures of the fictional dinosaur theme park. The vehicle was highlighted in the movie alongside the other key products of Mercedes-Benz such as the new GLE Coupe, G-Class, and Sprinter van.
