John McGuinness won the 2015 Senior TT capturing his 23rd career victory in the Isle of Man TT, bringing him just three behind the late Joey Dunlop atop the overall TT wins list. It took a record-setting lap with a average speed of 132.701 mph on his second lap, breaking Bruce Anstey‘s previous record of 132.298 mph set just last year.
The Senior TT had to be restarted and shortened to four laps after Jamie Hamilton crashed along the Cronk-y-Voddy straight on his second lap, bringing out a red flag. According to event officials, Hamilton suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
A faster starter all week, James Hillier took the early lead after the restart with McGuinness and Ian Hutchinson close behind. By the end of the first lap it was McGuinness in front with an average speed of 131.850 mph, the fastest recorded lap time from a standing stop. Hutchinson was 1.2 seconds behind while Hillier was a further few seconds back in third.
McGuinness maintained his momentum in the second time around with his record-setting lap, smashing Anstey’s record by three seconds. This gave McGuinness a comfortable 11 second lead over Hutchinson.
As McGuinness sprinted out of reach, the battle for second heated up with Hillier eventually gaining the advantage over Hutchinson.
