This year Volkswagen celebrates 40 years of the Golf. Up to this year there have been more than 30 million Golf models sold since May 1974. Seven generations later, the Golf still has the same elegant styling and frugal yet powerful engines.
In the United States the car was extremely successful, selling more than 100,000 unites in its first full year. Before Golf production was relocated in 1988, the Jetta sedan had assumed the role of sales leader in the U.S. market.
