Next Generation Kia Optima Heads in Unexpected Direction

2016 Kia Optima vs 2015 Kia Optima

The redesign of the 2016 Kia Optima has brought with it not only a revitalized model design but quite a bit of conflict as well. The reason behind some of the conflict lied with the current design of the Optima; Kia fans like the model as is and are hesitant about the new direction the popular midsize is headed in. At Briggs Kia, we’re excited about the current generation, but are curious to learn more about what the next generation holds. Tell us what you think in the comments below as we compare the 2016 Kia Optima vs 2015 Kia Optima.

The 2016 model remains midsized, but it has grown in length and when sized up against its competitors, it comes out taller, longer, and wider than segment contenders like the: Chevy Malibu, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry. Although the 2016 Optima hasn’t grown too much, it does make for a more spacious and comfortable cabin space for all passengers. There is more leg, hip, and head room as well as more trunk space to store cargo.

The narrower headlights and grille give it a menacing look, although it is a much different look than the previous Optima. The longer and taller build is apparent in its design features, especially within its skinnier tiger-nose grille.

Within the interior of the 2016 Optima, drivers will find an even more modern design with softer materials before to enhance the clean and crisp design of the cabin.  Real stitching and metallic accents are sprinkled throughout, giving the Optima a more luxurious feel like the K900.

Still available in five trim levels, the features across each of the models has changed. Instead of the: LX, EX, SX, SX Turbo, and Limited, the 2016 Kia Optima will come in the following: LX, LX Turbo, EX, SX Turbo, and SXL, each corresponding to the different powertrains. And beneath the hood of the new Kia Optima is a choice of three engines: the all-new 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder, as well as the two previously available engines; the 2.4L 4-cylinder and 2.0L turbocharged engines.

The overall design of the 2016 Optima is meant to give the sports sedan the look of a sweeping coupe, but we want to hear from you. Do you love it, hate it, or are you indifferent and think that it’s just different.
