Great Commercials - Let’s Dance

There’s a reason why I was hard on the 2015 Cadillac Escalade commercial: I like Cadillacs. And I like some of their commercials. To see the brand sell its products, in this case one of its most recognizable and best-selling, in such a fashion prompted me to fire up the keyboard then. Thankfully, unlike Honda/Acura, Cadillac has yet to leave me head-scratching or downright displeased through their advertisement on multiple occasions. The following video, while about a decade old, shows one of my favorites from the brand:

You know why I like it? Because it’s FUN. I understand that it can be interpreted another way(s). I wouldn’t be surprised that GM themselves would be embarrassed by this commercial today, given how they’re striving to woo more buyers by imitating the competition marketing themselves as equals (for example: not selling their product for less than the competition –well, that’s what I once read, even if it’s not working out), rather than a rowdy, cowboy, yankee-doodle (but somehow endearing) brand, if one were to go by the video.

Yet I cannot stop smiling. The editing, the choreography, the details like the automatic door locks locking at the appearance of our beloved, fashionably-late surprise guest before it starts moving to Led Zeppelin’s Rock and Roll (which resonated strongly with my music tastes back then), to name some. It wins me over years after I first watched it on TV. That makes it a great commercial, even if it’s only me.
