In 1955, Chevrolet debuted a new V-8 engine that gave the Corvette a much-needed infusion of horsepower, while also adding scoot to the full-size Bel Air. In the six decades since, the small-block Chevy has powered everything from family sedans to race cars to street rods, many of which were first built by other manufacturers. In recognition of the engine’s 60th anniversary, aftermarket performance giant Edelbrock will be giving away a supercharged 350-cu.in. V-8, rated at 518 horsepower, with an approximate retail value of $20,000.
Edelbrock doesn’t go into specifics about the engine to be awarded in the contest rules, but from the horsepower rating and displacement it a appears to be an E-Force Enforcer supercharged crate engine with 9.5:1 compression, a forged steel crankshaft and E-Tec cylinder heads. That combination should more than ample thrust for any street-based Chevy project that may currently grace your garage.
As with any such contest, there is plenty of fine print to get through. The contest is open only to residents of the 50 United States (including the District of Columbia but excluding territories) and Canada, but excluding Quebec. Entrants must of legal age in their state of residence, and can’t be an employee of RTM Productions, Edelbrock, or its affiliates. Winners must be on hand on June 25, 2015, in Franklin, Tennessee, when the prize is awarded, and all costs associated with winning (such as travel, taxes and shipping costs) are the sole responsibility of the winner. One entry can be submitted per person per week, but as the contest ends on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 (at 11:59 a.m. Central Time), we’re already in the final week.
