His teammate, Justin Hill, rebounded from a poor first moto result to finish 7th in moto two. Musquin had a top three start at the gate drop of moto one and was 2nd after the first lap. He made a couple mistakes and dropped to 4th place for the next three laps before he made a great pass to move back into podium position. On the seventh lap of the race he was able to make two passes to move his KTM into the lead position. Once out front, he checked out and went on to win the moto by 4 seconds. “I am excited to get the opening moto win,” stated Musquin. “I really like this track and am happy to be on the top of the podium and excited for the second race.” Hill did not have as good of luck in moto one. The Red Bull KTM Factory rider crashed on the opening lap and had to return to the mechanics area for assistance. He started nearly a lap down when the problem was fixed. He went out and turned fast times to climb from 40th to 25th in the 30 minute plus two lap moto. Musquin Podium CU1_5940! “I’m bummed about the crash first moto,” stated Hill. “But I’m happy I’m okay and can come back and charge hard for moto two.” Musquin earned a top ten start at the gate drop of the second moto. At the end of the first lap he came around in 8th place. He made a move to 7th on the next lap and then climbed up two more positions on lap three. On the fourth lap he was able to move into 4th place and two laps later he catapulted his KTM two more positions into 2nd place. Once in 2nd, he settled in and finished the moto in that position. His 1-2 moto scores earned him 2nd overall for the day. “Overall, I am happy with my performance,’ stated Musquin. “I would have definitely liked the overall win, but I am happy with a 2nd place result at the opening round. It puts me in a great spot heading into next week.” Meanwhile, Hill had a much better start in moto two and was just outside the top ten. He spent the moto moving up through the pack and was able to climb as high as 7th place by the end of the moto. His 25-7 scores earned him 13th overall for the day.
