The Audi teams and drivers were back on track today at Montalegre. Second day of FIA World Rallycross Championship action at the Portuguese circuit. As was the case yesterday there were some strong performances and a lot of bad luck for the Audi entries.
Sunday's action started with Heat 3. Mattias Ekström was once again the best ranked Audi driver. The EKS team owner ended in fourth place overall driving the #10 Audi S1. Robin Larsson was seventh with the #4 Audi A1. Anton Marklund was tenth overall with the #90 Audi S1 from team EKS. Alx Danielsson was fourteenth with the #55 Audi S3 from ALL-INKL Münnich Motorsport. Team-owner René Munnich had a DNF with the sister #77 Audi S3
Mattias Ekström performed very well again in Heat 4, he took a great second place overall with the #10 EKS Audi S1. Robin Larsson narrowly missed the Top 5, he ended in a strong sixth with his #4 Audi A1. Anton Marklund was a position behind, seventh place for the second driver at EKS with the #90 Audi S1. René Munnich was the best ranked ALL-INKL Münnich Motorsport driver, the German took position seventeen with the #77 Audi S3. His team-mate Alx Danielsson was unlucky again with another DNF with his #55 Audi S3.
Following four action packed heats with some close racing, only two drivers managed to enter the Semi-Finals, Mattias Ekstrom and Robin Larsson. The two drivers pushed really hard in Semi-Final 1 but were extremely unlucky.
Mattias Ekström finished the 6-lap race in fourth place overall driving the EKS #10 Audi S1. The double DTM champions ended right behind the Volkswagen Polo of P-G Andersson and narrowly missed the big Final
Robin Larsson was sixth behind the wheel of his #4 Audi A1. The 2014 Euro RX champion was able to match the pace of his rival with his fully privateer Audi A1. No doubts the Swedish driver will be one of the starts of this year's competition in World RX.
The overall event winner at Montalegre was Swedish driver Johan Kristoffersson. The Volkswagen driver took his first ever FIA World Rallycross Championship victory. Second place went to the reinging world champion Petter Solberg behind the wheel of his Citroen DS3. Timmy Hansen took the final spot on the podium with his factory Peugeot 208.
The FIA World Rallycross Championship won't have any break. The action will resume next weekend at Hockenheim where World RX will be joined by the DTM and the brand new TT Cup.
