The facelifted Renault Fluence has finally been launched by TC Euro Cars, effectively replacing the outgoing model despite being in the market for just less than a year. It was launched at the Centre Court of Mid Valley Megamall. Two variants are offered this time around, as opposed to the sole variant offered previously – the Expression variant which retails at RM 112,178.81 and the range topper Dynamique at RM 123,481.97. Both prices include GST and insurance premium.

We have to say, the new look is quite pleasing to the eyes. So what’s different from the previous model that was launched last May, you ask?
EXTERIOR
Well, the front fascia now follows the design language found on many other current Renault models, such as the Clio and the Koleos. The upper air intake grille is now wider and contours around the bottom of the emblem, which gives it a nice floating effect. The lower grille is smaller, more angular and separates the fog light clusters. The top-end Dynamique variant gets LED daytime running lights built into the fog lamp housing, a feature that isn’t shared with the Expression variant.
Over at the back, nothing much has changed, though the base trim will make do with bulb-type rear lamps where the Dynamique gets LED. Also new to the refreshed C-Segment sedan is its 17-inch alloy wheels, though the Dynamique gets a cool Akihiro two-tone paint.
INTERIOR
The Fluence retains many of its interior space and creature comforts. While the Expression variant gets fabric seats, the more expensive variant gets wrapped entirely in leather. Found on both cars are a plethora of equipment, beginning with the digital speedometer, R-Link 7-inch touchscreen with integrated rear view camera, 3D sound by Arkamys, TomTom Navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, start/stop button and the list goes on.
PERFORMANCE
There are no mechanical tweaks or upgrades here. Powering this French beauty is a familiar engine plucked from the previous-gen Nissan Sylphy – a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine that makes 143 hp at 6,000 rpm and 195 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. It is paired also to Nissan’s famed X-Tronic CVT gearbox, driving the front wheels.
Fuel consumption is rated at 7.7 L/100 km while achieving a respectable 0 to 100 km/h time of 10.1 seconds and a top speed of 195km/h.
SAFETY
Standard on all variants are the usual suspects: ESP, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX, six airbags and Renault’s own Hands-free cards that replaces the usual key fob found on many modern cars.
WHAT ELSE?
The new Renault Fluence come with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. The Dynamique variant gets an additional 5inFluence warranty package that includes free maintenance for the first five years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first.
It is available in five different shades of grey. No, I’m just kidding. Let’s not go there. There’s Ultra Silver, Black Metallic, Mars Grey and White Pearl to choose from. The fifth colour is an all-new one – Crimson Red, the very colour you see this car donning right here. Now, can we get the Fluence Z.E. and the Renault Sport version? Pretty please?
