It’s been a long time coming, this. The Toyota Camry is making a comeback – a huge one at that might we add, this time packing some mix of really promising things in the bag. Unlike the Vios, the facelift doesn’t just spell skin-deep alterations because new looks aside, the Camry will also gain from a new engine, a six-speed gearbox and a hybrid variant, no less.
Word has it that the Camry facelift will share the same base 2.0-litre VVT-iW engine as the Lexus NX200t’s, minus the turbocharger, of course. This more advanced engine is capable of operating in both Otto and Atkinson cycle, optimising fuel efficiency at all rev ranges without compromising performance and emission.
Not much is known about the Malaysian specced Camry Hybrid at the moment, but we’ll be giving you the full details of it come Monday (23 March) when we see it in the flesh, along with the non-hybrid variants as well. But we can tell you this: the hybrid will most likely be based on a 2.5-litre engine, so stay tuned for the latest updates!
