The Suzuki iK-2 concept, which debuted overnight at the Geneva motor show, previews a production-bound hatchback.

Boasting a body sporting the company’s new “liquid flow” design theme and inspired by “harmonised force”, the iK-2 concept car is built around Suzuki’s new compact car platform.

According to Suzuki, a production version of the iK-2 will go on sale in Europe from 2016.

The iK-2 measures 4023mm long, 1.92 metres wide and 1.45m tall, and sits on a 2.52m wheelbase. This places Suzuki’s new hatch somewhere in between the 3.85m Swift and the 4.3m SX4 S-Cross. The iK-2 is 60mm and 125mm less tall than the Swift and S-Cross, respectively.

Oddly, the iK-2 is between 15 and 22 centimetres wider than both cars, although the width figure quoted by Suzuki for the iK-2 may include the car’s wing mirrors.

Under the bonnet, the iK-2 houses a new 1.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine, dubbed Boosterjet. The company has yet to pin any performance or fuel economy figures on this new motor.

Suzuki says that the production version of iK-2 will, at least in Europe, be offered with a mild hybrid system.

The iK-2 looks practically ready to amble down production line, although the concept-style LED head- and tail-lights, as well as the 18-inch alloy wheels and 225/45 rubber, may not make the journey.

We’re waiting to hear back from Suzuki’s Australian distributors as to whether the iK-2 is planned for local release.
